Motorola Q 9h review: Moto messenger
The Motorola Q 9h seems an interesting offer if you’re after a smartphone. There’s no stylus, nor touchscreen, and neither is likely to be missed. In return you get a full QWERTY keypad, almost complete data equipment and Windows Mobile 6 Standard. If you want a Windows Mobile gadget but are trying to steer clear of touchscreen displays, the Q 9h might just do the job for you.
The Motorola Q was quite an important device for Motorola; it broke the mould of devices we were used to seeing out of its production lines and shoved the company into the QWERTY smartphone limelight. It was a solid entry, but did have its quirks, and only just recently made it to GSM networks.
However, the Q 9h is not the best in its class. It is at best an equal, but does not do enough to really stand taller than other offerings. The Samsung Blackjack does almost everything the Motorola Q 9h can, and does it in a smaller and arguably more attractive package. Motorola’s offering does edge the Blackjack out on the camera and battery life stakes, and certainly does have a place on the shopping list of potential buyers though, and thus does earn itself a “Highly Recommended” rating. Had Motorola managed to cram WiFi into the device, and maybe even improved the build quality a little, the Q 9h would have been even better. Yet overall, this is a fantastic device.
